Appointment as General Consultant for three Lines of Mumbai Metro Rail Project
Mumbai Metro is an ambitious project of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) aimed to decongest the financial capital of India i.e. Mumbai.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region is densely populated with a population of more than 2.3 crores spread over the geographical area of 6,328 sq.km. In Mumbai, road traffic is a major source of pollution and the existing suburban railways is overcrowded, nudging the local authorities to develop an additional mode of public transportation system that is faster, smoother, safer, occupy less space, is non-polluting and energy-efficient.
This led to the conceptualization of Mumbai Metro which started its development in 2014. CEG was appointed as the General Consultant for Line 7 (Andheri-Dahisar) and Line 2B (DN Nagar-Mandala) in 2016. During our successful work, we are also appointed as General Consultant for Line 5 (Thane-Kalyan) and Line 9 (Andheri-Mira Bhayander) in 2019 and Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar-JVLR Seepz-Kanjur Marg-EEH) in 2020. It is being made as a Standard Guage Metro as it permits the adoption of sharp curves, suiting the local requirements.
The total length of the three corridors is 100.075 kms. and is mostly elevated, except for 2 kms underground section on Line 9 (Andheri-Mira Bhayander). The cost of three projects exceeds more than INR 35,000 crores.
